Press Release: Sixth Bi-Annual Workshop on "The Philosophy and Techniques for Quantitative Research"
‘Tools such as VOSviewer and Artificial Intelligence language models can significantly enhance the researchers’ efficiency but this must not be achieved at the cost of academic integrity’ was the upshot of Sixth Bi-Annual Workshop on 'The Philosophy and Techniques for Quantitative Research' organized by the SDGs Research and Resource Centre (SRRC), Department of Economics, Fatima Jinnah Women University on May 16, 2023.
Prof. Dr. Bushra Yasmin, Workshop Convener, in her welcome address, highlighted the importance of learning the philosophy and techniques for quantitative research to identify and quantify the challenges in achieving sustainable development goals. She emphasized on the role of academia in embracing these challenges and in supporting the institution through their research skills to achieve SDGs by 2030. Sixty plus students and faculty members from various departments attended the workshop. The workshop consisted of three sessions. First session was about the tools for bibliographic mapping of literature review. Dr. Abid Rehman, Research Fellow at PIDE, demonstrated how VOSviewer can be used for bibliographic mapping of literature review. In the second session, Dr. Zainab Jehan, Associate Professor Department of Economics, FJWU elaborated the ethics in academic research. She highlighted the importance of ethical consideration involved in research is required for promising the quality of academic research. In the last session, Ms. Syeda Sundas Raza, Visiting Faculty at the Department of Economics, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, explained how various Artificial Intelligence tools can be used in an efficient manner without the loss of integrity in academic research. Dr. Faiza Azhar Khan, Workshop Coordinator presented the vote of thanks and the workshop concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to guest speakers and group photo.
