Department of Behavioral Sciences in collaboration with Saaya Association organized a Seminar on World Disability Day 2021

Word Disability Day is an expression to remind and acknowledge the rights and welfare of differently able persons and to raise the awareness for their inclusivity in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life. The day is a commitment to think, plan and action to create a society that is inclusive and responsive to everyone’s needs. On account of observance of World Disability Day, the department of Behavioral Sciences in collaboration with Saaya Association of Persons with Disabilities organized a seminar under the theme “Leadership and Participation of Persons with Disabilities towards an Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Post-COVID-19 WORLD”. Among speakers of the day, Mr. Asim Zafar (CEO Saaya Association), Ms. Munazza Gillani (Country Director, Sightsavers Pakistan), Dr. Sarwat Mirza (Chief Health & Research Development HANDS, National Coordinator CBID-Network) and Col. Dr. Abdur Rashid (Principal Army Special Education Academy, Rawalpindi) shared the work they are doing for differently abled persons. Mr. Ansar (Program Coordinator Saaya Independent Living Center) shared his inspirational journey from disability to living an independent and productive life.

In the opening remarks of the event, Dr Aneela Maqsood (Head of Behavioral Sciences Department) spoke on how knowledge and awareness based seminars are powerful ways to induce positive attitudinal change in the society. Further, she shared that together we need to move forward towards the cause of supporting and nurturing healthier inclusive society. Dr. Saima Hamid (Vice Chancellor FJWU) and Dr. Tahir Mukhtar (Reporting Faculty) graced the event with their presence. Dr Saima Hamid appreciated the contribution of speakers in promoting the welfare of the people with special needs. Dr. Hamid distributed souvenirs among guests and speakers. The skit performance by students of Bachelors 7th semester made the event marvelous.
