USAID LAUDED FJWU FOR PROMOTING QUALITY EDUCATION

RAWALPINDI: Director Education of USAID, Zaid A. Abuhouron visited the Fatima Jinnah Women University today. Director USAID Scholarship (HEC) Mr. Rao Azhar accompany with him during his visit. The visit aims at exploring the avenues for cooperation in trainings, consulting, incubation and innovation.

Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Azra Yasmin, in his welcome remarks appreciated the positive contribution of USAID scholarships in the development of youth and society of Pakistan. She briefed in detail about the degree programs and the salient features of university. She said that conducive environment is provided to student which enables them to polish their leadership skills. She elaborated that apart from financial changes we are facing a lot of other challenges in which we need support of US. Education is a key driver of economic growth and social development in Pakistan, she added. Zaid A. Abuhouron assured continuous support of his government that is willing to investing the development of youth of Pakistan. He informed that the friendship between two countries is long lasting and under US grants more opportunities will be created for youth of Pakistan.

He also visited the newly constructed building (funded by United Nations) of Education Department where he had detailed meeting with Faculty of Education. Dr. Ghulam Behlol, Incharge Education Department, informed him that state-of-the-art facilities at education department training students and faculty members: enable them to prepare them to meet the demands of competitive world.  Faculty members discussed the future plans for the expansion of department in term of capacity building and hoped that US financed education department for the establishment of micro teaching labs.

After that Director USAID had interactive session with the USAID merit and needs based scholarship awardee. The scholarship awardees also shared their personal comments and positive impact of these scholarships on their educational and career plans.
