Afghan Women Delegation at FJWU Women Play Key Role in Nation-Building: Suri
Rawalpindi - Fatima Jinnah Women University organized ‘Women in Peace Festival: An International Conference on Peace building between Pakistan and Afghanistan,’ in collaboration with Forum for Dignity Initiative Islamabad funded by Holing Center for International Dialogue, Washington D.C. on November 4-5, 2019. The panel discussions by the women leaders of Pakistan and Afghanistan (representing civil society, academia, media and art) has generated a dialogue around women role and how inclusion of women in peace making process on both the sides i.e. Pakistan and Afghanistan can ensure sustainable peace in the region. Parliamentarians from Pakistan, diplomats from Afghanistan, representative from academia, media, civil society organization, Faculty and youth from universities mainly interested in regional politics, security, education and peace actively contributed during the panel discussions. Senator Faisal Javed Khan addressed the audience in the opening ceremony of the conference stressing on the key role of women in peace building quoting if you want something said, ask a man…but if you want something done, ask a women.
In closing ceremony Mr. Qasim Khan Suri, National Assembly Deputy Speaker, said that women are playing key role in Socio-economic development of the country and could not be limited to home for performing their tasks. The deputy speaker emphasized that Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan and it is imperative for peace on its soil. Dr. Saima Hamid, Vice Chancellor, Fatima Jinnah Women University highlighted the pivotal role of this university in imparting education and carrying out such events combined with highest ethical standards that cultivate a culture of empathy and peace among these vibrant young women. She stressed that we believe in the resilient role of women in all spheres of life and; off course a peaceful society and region is inevitable without an active role of women in it.
