Mid-term, home assignments, class participation, quizzes, viva and final exam or final project are means of student evaluation.

Grades shall be allocated to a student according to her overall performance in any course. FJWU’s Grading System is based on Marking by the Curve Rulesas practiced in the leading Universities abroad. Grades are as follows:

Method:

A+  =(mean+2*SD+1) and above
A =(mean+ 1.5*SD+1)  to (mean +2*SD)
A- =(mean+ 1*SD+1)  to (mean + 1.5*SD)
B+ =(mean + 0.5*SD+1)  to (mean + 1*SD)
B =(mean -0.5*SD)  to (mean + 0.5*SD)
B- =(mean – 1*SD) to (mean – 0.5*SD-1)
C =(mean – 1.5*SD)  to (mean – 1*SD-1)
D =(mean – 2*SD) to (mean – 1.5*SD-1)  
F =entire range below mean – 2*SD
  • Maximum Grade: A+ , Maximum Grade Point Average (GPA): 4.0
  • Minimum Passing Grade: D, Minimum Passing GPA: 2.0
  • Minimum required GPA for the students of good academic standing is 2.0.
  • The minimum required Cumulative GPA (CGPA) for all disciplines both at Graduate and undergraduate level is 2.0.

Probation/Dropped Criteria

  • A student with GPA below 2.0 and above 1.5 shall be put on probation and promoted to the next semester with lesser course load.
  • A student who is on probation cannot take more than nine credit hours’ course load at Graduate and twelve credit hours’ course load at Undergraduate level. However, students could apply to the Admission Committee for a review, which shall give a decision on merit.
  • A Student on probation for two consecutive semesters in Graduate /Undergraduate level is dropped from the University rolls.
  • A student with a GPA below 1.5 is dropped from the University rolls.

Note: The above policy is being implemented from the Session (2009-2013) in case of Graduate programs and Session (2009-2011) for Postgraduate programs (those who are covered under the new Grading policy) only.
