Environmental Sciences Program was started in September 1999 keeping in view the vision of Fatima Jinnah Women University to train women of Pakistan to develop their academic, moral, physical, professional and intellectual potentials. The students are encouraged to recognize and understand the threats and conflicts in the environment today, and appreciate the steps required to develop solutions.

The masters program in environmental sciences is a two-and half-year, interdisciplinary and applied research program. The program is built around offering critically reviewed innovative, applied and updated courses to the students, followed by required research work leading to their specialized interests. This degree program provides a solid forum to pursue a career in the environmental field as is evident by the employment of students in national and multinational organizations before they graduate.

Students are always encouraged to present their research work as a part of training, in different seminars, workshops and conferences. Frequently arranged guest lectures and field visits open new horizons and update their knowledge.

Environmental Science Program has privilege of having well equipped laboratories, have a wide range of instruments for sampling, analysis and image processing through GIS and SRS tools. Students as part of their courses and their final semester research dissertation fully utilize the labs and are benefited in having advance practical training.

Internships are an excellent way to gain employment-related experience for a career in environmental science. This approach prepares our students to assume positions of leadership in both private and public sectors and translate their gained knowledge into action for sustainable development as their contribution to Pakistan.

Environmental Sciences Program has strong collaboration with a number of national and international organizations like British Council, LEAD, UNEP, HEC, UNESCO, ARL, EPA, SUPARCO, NARC. Eminent professors and expertise honor the program through their induction and teaching full regular semester. Dr.Ikram Khwaja from Youngstown State University introduced Environmental Geology for the first time ever in Pakistan. Strong ties are always encouraged through collaboration in research and academics to further strengthen the program.
