The Master's in Economics (M.Econ.) Program offered at FJWU stands out in many respects. The courses being offered are a forward-looking and development-oriented combination of positive/normative and qualitative/quantitative economics.
The Program presently offers 39 credits of core courses and 3 credits of required Seminar/Workshop courses in economic theory, analysis and policy. Additionally, the students are required to obtain 12 credits consisting of optional courses (multidisciplinary options are also made available).
Three sessions of M.Econ. Program have passed out. The graduates were optimally prepared to be launched in the job market: not only were they required to complete intensive course work, they also had to fulfil the mandatory prerequisite for the award of the degree i.e., conducting research and writing the dissertation for securing 6 credits. Keeping in view the importance of studies of Economics for the development of Pakistan, every effort is made and facility is provided by FJWU to encourage the M.Econ. students for working on Pakistan-oriented research projects. The major areas of research are Development Economics, International Economics, Public Finance and Monetary Economics, Agricultural Economics, Human Resource Development (HRD), Environmental Economics, Education, Industrial Economics and Demography. Eminent economists of prestigious institutions evaluate students' research projects. The Program frequently invites renowned national and international economists and public policy makers in the colloquiums organized in their honor. These colloquiums familiarize students with the tradition of active participation in controversial and dynamic economic issues and debates.
