The Women Resource Center was established to sensitize women on Gender Issues and to focus on Fatima Jinnah Women University students for enhancement of education and employment opportunities in all disciplines.
The centre was renamed Women Research and Resource Centre to emphasize research on gender and social issues to reflect the academic and professional development of women in general and within the context of our society in particular.

Institutional Research |

A longitudinal study of two years on Gender Audit in the areas of health and Employment is in progress since 2003. This includes one training at Glasgow under the DFID program (already undertaken).(Completed)
Replication of research on Attitude of Rural Population towards Female Education.(completed)

Students Research |

Independent study by a Ph. D student on the development of bibliography of Muslims Feminists of Middle East and other Muslim Countries has been completed.
The faculty of the Centre is involved in the supervision of gender-related research in all the departments of the university. |

Teaching |

| |
WRRC offers certificate courses during summers on gender-related topics for students, faculty and interested women from the civil society.
A course ‘Women in Development’ is offered across the board to all the students at the graduate level. Successful completion of this course is mandatory to qualify for the master’s degree. |

Training and Sensitization Workshops |

The centre is actively involved in organizing national and international level workshops to sensitize and involve the women faculty of other universities also in its attempt to empower women in higher education and enhance their self awareness.
The Chancellor has designated the Fatima Jinnah Women University as a focal point for assisting other universities in the development of their Gender Studies curriculum. In this regard a three days National workshop was held in collaboration with the University of Glasgow under the link program. The workshop was quite stimulating due to the participation of international and national participants. It was also attended by the directors of the Women Studies centers of national universities namely University of Peshawar, University of Balochistan, Quaid-e-Azam University, Karachi University, and the Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad.
Professor Dr. Diana Leonard, Institute of Education, University of London, is the visiting foreign faculty member of WRRC.
Ms. Anne Gold, Institute of Education, University of London, is regularly involved in conducting workshops and short courses for the faculty and staff of FJWU and other national universities. |

The Women Research and Resource Centre (WRRC) continues its endeavor to invite eminent speakers to address the students on gender-related issues. Every semester, a number of distinguished national and international scholars are invited to share their experiences with the students. |

International Links |

Three years link program between Women Research and Resource Centre, Fatima Jinnah Women University and Glasgow University U.K. with help of British Council under DFID Program successfully concluded in 2004.It was rated as very successful for the link by the British Council.
New links have been established in 2005 and MOUs have been signed with 3 universities for establishing links with Gender Studies. These are University of London, University of Indiana, Bloomington, USA, and University of Windsor, Canada. Under these programs the younger faculty and students of Gender Studies will go overseas for short and long term training and the faculty from the above mentioned universities will come to Pakistan for offering short term courses, conducting workshops and for participating in research activities. |

Different organizations have assisted us in various events of the Centre like holding of workshops, organizing academic lectures by visiting scholars from abroad etc. Some of these are UNESCO, British Council, DFID, and HEC. HEC has sponsored new links and visits of faculty from both home and abroad to strengthen our programs. |
