Lending Rules

All registered users are entitled to borrow materials from the library. Borrowing privileges may differ depending on the membership category. The borrowing privileges for general books are:

*On a special request, Chief Librarian can issue additional books for a limited period of time to the faculty.

 

  • A valid library card must be presented to checkout any library materials at the circulation desk.
  • Books may be renewed if another user has not reserved the desired book. Overdue books will not be renewed.
  • Library material borrowed by any member is subject to recall if needed by the library
  • Books already checked-out by some other user can be placed on hold. When the book arrives, the patron requesting the book will be contacted. Requests to put a book on hold should be made at the circulation desk.
  • Reference material, annual reports, pamphlets, current and bound periodicals, and newspapers cannot be checked-out. Those materials may be consulted within the library premises.
  • If a book is accidentally misplaced and cannot be found after a thorough search, report this to the Circulation Desk immediately to avoid overdue fines.
  • Mutilation of library material is a matter of disciplinary action. Books accidentally damaged should be reported so that suitable assessment can be made and damages paid.
  • Any material not returned or renewed within 60 days of the date due will be considered LOST and the appropriate fines will be charged.

Fines

To encourage the timely return of library materials and to provide optimal sharing of library resources, fines will be charged on overdue items. Borrowers are responsible for returning or renewing items by the due date. If items are not returned within the due date, fines will be charged from the first overdue day, at the following rates.

Regular Books Rs.5 per book, per day

Reference Books Rs.40 per reference book, per day

Lost Books

In case of loss or damage, the patron may either replace the lost book with a new book (identical title) or be charged twice the current price of the item.

Disciplinary Fine

A fine of Rs. 500 will be charged upon the first time violation. A fine of Rs. 1000 will be charged upon the second time violation. If a patron continues, the case will be referred to the University Disciplinary Committee.

Library account will be blocked if the fine exceeds Rs. 5000.
